Father's Day Cards

We have been checking out Ed Emberley's fingerprint drawing books at our house lately. My kids love the idea of creating little creatures out of their fingerprints. Ed Emberley has a whole collection of books dedicated to fingerprint art creation. A very good rainy day activity.

This year we took inspiration from Ed to create some Father's Day cards. My 4 and 6-year-old loved creating these.

Start by making fingerprints. We used one of my stamp ink pads for this.

Have your child(ren) press firmly on the paper wherever you would like your little creatures to go. Make sure you have them lift their fingers directly up after making the print, so the ink does not smear.

Add some animal details. We chose to make mice, so we added ears and tails to our fingerprints.

We added a chunk of cheese to the front as well. The "cheese" holes were created by using a standard paper hole punch, and a smaller-size (scrap booking) paper hole punch. You could just use the standard size, and it would still be just as cute.

Our message for the inside was:

This may sound cheesy, but we hope you have a very "mice" Father's Day!

Yes, my 4 and 6-year-olds thought the inside message was absolutely hilarious. Dad will probably pretend to find it equally amusing:).

I also really like the frogs Ed Emberly does:

These would be very cute on a Father's Day card too. Hoppy Fathers Day!.....or something :).

I love thumbprint doodles! And I always forget about them! I love adding them to the inside of cards or something. They're just silly and fun :-D

Sweet! You are so creative! And I must say, mice are very New York.

How cute is that?! I'm inspired to make my own cards now. The scrapbook look always intimidated me, this I can do.
