I'm celebrating a pretty good end to a year of gardening that could have gone much worse. It was my first time, but I'm pleased to say I'll be doing it again next year...rabbits, Japanese Beetles, deer and all. Maybe next year I'll figure out a way to keep the animals from munching my sugar snap peas to oblivion. Perhaps a large cement fortress with barbed wire?

Mr. McGreely decides one day to finally plant a long yearned for garden. He can't wait to eat those delicious vegetables. Unfortunately, he soon learns that planting the garden is the easy part. When the sun goes down and the moon comes up, out creep 3 hungry bunnies...
Tippy-- Tippy-- Tippy, Pat!
Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!
To his dismay, Mr. McGreely finds evidence of the critters and quickly builds a little fence. Does it stop them that night?
Tippy-- Tippy-- Tippy, Pat!
Spring-hurdle,
Dash! Dash! Dash!
Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!
Seeing the nibbled leaves the next morning, Mr. McGreely builds a tall wooden fence, and the next failed morning he builds a trench around it. It seems that no matter what he tries, the bunnies can still get in. Mr. McGreely finally builds a cinderblock fortress complete with barbed wire, lights (and what appears to be DirecTV.... but I guess it's another sort of monitoring device). Mr. McGreely is sure this will work. And it does. Or does it?
Easy Enrichment: Find the bunnies hiding while they watch Mr. McGreely (any relation to another rabbit-hating gardener?). Fantastic book for reading aloud together. You will find yourselves going Tippy-- Tippy-- Tippy, Pat throughout the house.
And don't worry, Mr. McGregor doesn't have rabbit stew at the end.
