Happy, Healthy Halloween??

My kids and I sure have been enjoying the Halloween treats and sweets this year (thank you for the recipes, Holly!) ....possibly too much :). What is Halloween without the candy? In an attempt to detox and still be festive minus the sugar charge, we made some healthy snacks today that were quite a spooky sight. Surprisingly, my kids ate every last piece. Even the eyelashes. Maybe we will make these year round.

To make your own you will need:

Apple cut into wedges for lips
Peanut Butter for Gums (to hold the teeth in)
Slivered Almonds for some scary teeth
Halved grapes for the snout
Kiwi slices for eyes
Carrot shavings for eye lashes
Carved Carrot sticks for Eyebrows

I made this "spiderweb pizza" on Monday night for the kids. They loved helping to construct the web, and creating the spiders. Our pizza had to have three spiders. There is a link to a recipe here, but you don't really need one. Just use slices of string cheese instead of regular shredded cheese and cut up some olives to look like spiders.

Any of you have any low-sugar Halloween traditions you would like to share? I would love to hear them!

Those slivered almonds really make those faces scary...I almost had to look away! :)
We just made "Witch Hands" for my kindergartener's Halloween party at school. You just get a package of 100 flimsy plastic gloves from the dollar store, put a candy corn in the bottom of each finger for a "fingernail," and fill it the rest of the way with popcorn. It was suggested we have the kids decorate cookies, but this was easier cleanup and the kids enjoyed making them SO much!
