I feel like every New Years I resolve to eat a little better. Every year (often after I have overdosed on Christmas goodies) I renew my resolve to cut back on sugar and meat, eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. In the last couple of years, I have also become more conscious about buying organic. My reasons for renewing this resolution are varied, but the overarching reason is that I just plain feel better when I do. This year, in addition to my resolution to make better choices about what I put in my body, I have also resolved to be better informed about what I put on my body.
Have you ever wondered what exactly hangs out in your lip gloss, shampoo, lotion and make-up? What exactly are those ingredients you can't pronounce on the back of the bottle? If you want to know the answer, you can head to http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/ and search by either your beauty product, or by the ingredient in question. This website ranks beauty products by a 0-10 ranking (10 being the highest) to give you an idea of the potential health risk certain beauty products pose. I was a little alarmed to find that my favorite mascara ranked a 9.
In my quest to find some high quality, all-natural beauty products I came across Save Your World. Save Your World is company that produces shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, shower gel, and lip balm- that are both good for your skin and the environment. Their product ingredients (and an explaination of what they are) are available on their website. Many of their products include organic ingredients, and are scented with essential oils.
Two of my favorite products are the Lip Balm and the Exfoliating Bar soap. These two products help to combat the winter dryness my body is experiencing right now. I am also a big fan of their shampoo. I love the Grapefruit Mango, and the Oasis Fruit scent.
In addition to being good for your body, SYW products are good for the environment. When you purchase a SYW product, you are helping to preserve an acre of rainforest for one year.
You can purchase Save Your World Products on their website online, or at Whole Foods. You may also find their product line in your hotel room in the near future.
Who would like to try the Save Your World product line? One lucky Citrus winner will recieve the Oasis Fruit of Love Gift bag. This prize has a 59$ value and saves 12 acres of rainforest for a year. Enter by leaving a comment on this post before Midnight February 3, 2009. A winner will be selected randomly on February 4th, and posted. Shipping to continental US only.
