Cupcake Courier

The Cupcake Courier is a sturdy, plastic tote for up to 36 cupcakes, muffins or other confections. This product was created by a mom, who found that making cupcakes, was easier than actually getting them to the party without getting them smooshed. The Cupcake Courier has 3 rows of 12 cupcakes. Each row is removable, resulting in a flat bottom that can hold an entire decorated 9 x 13" cake, or a round, tiered cake

So it holds cupcakes, but is it worth it? From Suburbia to Metropolis, we tried it out:

Sherie (Suburbia Mom):
Every year, on my birthday, my mom would send me to school with two cereal boxes. However, the boxes did not contain Cheerios or Rice Krispies, as they claimed. The back of the cereal box was cut out, the box was turned horizontal and filled with cupcakes....well with what started out as cupcakes. I am a prime candidate for Cupcake Courier ownership, having seen the carnage of transporting without one. So, knowing that I wanted one, and I have a basement to store it in, I started to compare the Cupcake Courier to other varieties that are out there.

My initial concerns with the Cupcake Courier were that other cupcake carriers are available for less money, and they come with a pan to bake the cupcakes in. These products have a lid that attaches directly to the pan, which initially seemed very convenient. That "pro" quickly turned into a "con" when I realized that would mean I would have to use the baking pan to carry the cupcakes. I have no interest in waiting for the cupcake pan to cool, then scrubbing it before I can rush out the door with them in tow. After baking cupcakes a few times in a cupcake pan, regardless of how carefully you clean it (or try not to get batter on it), the pan starts to look a little funky......especially if it's a cheap cupcake pan. The entire point of the Cupcake Courier is to preserve the presentation of your cupcakes. Not only do your cupcakes get to the event without getting smashed, they come with fantastic presentation in a neat and clean box. I love that although I am not a gifted baker, I can fake it with my Cupcake Courier.
The price difference is reflected in how many cupcakes the Courier can carry. The Cupcake Courier holds 36 cupcakes, which is more than any other carrier out there.
My favorite thing about the Cupcake Courier is that you can ditch the cupcake holders altogether and carry an entire tiered cake instead. Leftovers? Of course there will be with a big cake. The Cupcake Courier will keep your leftovers fresh, without using an entire roll of foil to wrap the cake.
I have really enjoyed having my Cupcake Courier! I'm a stay-at-home mom, but I see how this would be great for bringing birthday cupcakes to work. As for me, I find I'm more willing to volunteer to bring a treat for various activities, because I actually enjoy seeing how pretty I can make the cupcakes. Kids all gather around when I pull the lid off, and seem in awe at the grandeur (little do they realize how simple it is now). Get the Cupcake Courier, and you will be making up reasons to make cupcakes too.

Holly (Metropolis Mom):
I was a little wary of the Cupcake Courier at first, because I wondered if the latches would hold securely while I carried it. However, I found they were secure and held up through the stroller bumps, and hefting from one arm to the other as I delivered cupcakes to friends. I even accidentally knocked it against the wall a few times while trying to maneuver the stroller in and out of elevators.

It is a good thing I can maneuver my stroller one-handed. Since it doesn't fit in the basket of my stroller, I had to carry it by hand. It was a little cumbersome- but so is just about anything you have to carry while pushing a stroller for half a mile. Plus, I really can't think of an easier way to carry cupcakes so they will arrive in tip-top shape.

The cupcakes also held up very well through the rough ride. In fact, my cupcakes were on the flat side (I am not such a great baker) I tilted them inside the cups so I could get them out when I delivered them. The cups are just the right size so they hold securely- even tilted cupcakes.

I used the Courier to keep the cupcakes moist, like a cake dome, until I was ready to frost and deliver them. I also used the trays to hold the cupcakes while I decorated them, and I found that after I washed the trays I could stack them upside down to dry.

As for space, I happen to have some on the top of my fridge. The clear color is discreet and it doesn't look too bad up there. Although, by the looks of the dust bunnies, I don't pay too much attention to "up there" anyway.

The only thing I didn't like about the Cupcake Courier? It is like having a big sign that says "I have cupcakes!" Everyone was hoping I had one to spare for them. Alas, I only had 36.

Theresa (Metropolis Mom):

I had my eye on a cupcake carrier at Crate and Barrel that is relatively compact, and priced cheaper than the Courier. I soon realized, however, that most of my cupcake transporting would be to and from school and church functions. My daughter's kindergarten class has 25 students, and 2 instructors. If I were to use the Crate and Barrel option (which holds 2 dozen cupcakes) I would have to find a way to transport the three additional cupcakes that did not fit into this carrier. The fact that this carrier can transport up to 36 cupcakes, is a major bonus (especially here in NYC with our lovely over-crowded classrooms :)

I can fit the cupcake courier on top of my Phil&Teds and Macleran Strollers (balanced on the canopy and wedged up against the handlebars- you know what I mean if you live in NYC :). This arrangement is not the most stable, of course, but it is how I transport 99% of everything I carry around, and is really the only way to transport the Cupcake Courier here in NYC if you have a stroller bound child.

If your children are all grown up you can, of course, skip the balancing act all together and just carry the Cupcake Courier by its handle- the way nature intended.

My only qualm about the Cupcake Courier is it's size. It is large....very large if you live in a tiny apartment like I do. With that said, the space issue is really my only issue. This is a very well-built contraption that is versatile and convenient.

Also, for all of you Magnolia Bakery fans, the Cupcake Courier is sold at Magnolia locations throughout NYC- so you can have your fancy cupcake, and carry it in style.

The Cupcake Courier is also available (in 4 colors) in stores online at Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, and Amazon for between $24.99 and $29.99.

Who wants to win a Cupcake Courier? We are trying things a little different this time! To enter simply leave a comment on this post before midnight on May 20th, indicating where you would take your Cupcake Courier. A winner will be randomly selected. If you would like us to email you if you are a winner, please leave your email in your comment- if not, check back on May 21st to see if you have won! Good luck!!

I'm in! I'm in! I would take cupcakes to the next YW's Activity. They would think I was so cool! (I am. Really.)

I would take it to a picnic/party.

Well, we're buying cupcakes for a baby shower, but it is this Sat. I'd use it though, if I had it. Or maybe I'd let my friend Kiersta borrow it if she made cupcakes for her kids to give away at a birthday or school party. I'll use it when my girls are in school, but that is 5 years away, soooooo hmmmm.

I think this is the coolest cupcake carrier I've seen. It's always tricky to bring cupcakes to school for Karin's class. There are 33 kids in her class. And sometimes I want to bring treats to the shop. This would be perfect!

I would have loved to have it yesterday:) I had to take cupcakes to a church activity last night. I had them on 2 different plates carrying one in each hand hoping they didn't slide off, and then having to open the doors with no empty hands:) Any how it would have come in handy. I am taking cupcakes next week to my daughters preschool party and once again could use the Cupcake Courier.

I've been pricing these out for a while, so a free one would be fantastic! I'm always taking treats to my YW class, so this would be perfect!

Church is the obvious answer, but I think I would have to say social gatherings like playgroup or preschool.

I found owning the courier a great excuse to just make cupcakes for no reason and deliver them to friends and neighbors! Theresa, I thought about "odds and ends" craft supply storage for a 2nd use too. Only problem would be moving all the items out when you needed it for cupcakes.

Let me try this again. I didn't read what I had to include in my post very carefully: I would love one of these couriers because I make cupcakes instead of cakes these days, due to their portion size which I find appropriate for children. I would take the courier with me to the park where we will celebrate Lillian's birthday in June!

Church, playgroup, the park - this courier would be used for tons of excursions and celebrations.

But, really, I'd probably just want to keep all the cupcakes to myself and use the courier as storage for a week of dessert for my family.

I might take cupcakes to my husband's workplace, since he loves it there so much! but definitely to the many gatherings we attend.

Really, the thought of having the capability to tote cupcakes wherever you go changes the question to, where wouldn't I take them? Anywhere frosted treats are allowable are now open to cupcakes. I could bring cupcakes into the nursery one week for a surprise treat, or into my husband's office, or to the BBQ this weekend, or to the park, or to playgroup, to a potluck dinner. So where wouldn't I take the Cupcake Carrier? I can see it being a little conspicuous sneaking into the movie theater...

I would take them to work! I'm a cake decorating instructor and I have to provide my own cupcakes and cakes to demonstrate on. This would make my life a whole lot easier!

Oh my goodness, I'd use them for many occassions: church gatherings, family parties, playgroups or classes. I think I would find reasons to make cupcakes if I had one! I am a huge fan of cupcakes over cake, because of their convenience and individual size. I would love a cupcake courier!!

I would use it for TONS of church, school, party, etc. My 3 girls LOVE cupcakes so it would be a huge hit if we could take them and share them with friends!

I'd take it to playgroups, church activities, birthday parties, or just at home to store muffins or cupcakes. This is a pretty cool courier, I can think of tons of times that it would have come in handy.

I can easily say that I would use it to carry cupcakes to nursery, play group, and my cake decorating class because these are places that I've taken my own cupcake carrier. Unfortunately, in all of these cases, I was limited in the number of cupcakes because my carrier only holds 12 cupcakes. This courier is definitely needed (especially when the kiddies are in school!)

I would bring cupcakes to park group or a family dinner that we have the first Monday of every month!

I would use it to bring cupcakes to church functions and family parties,

I would use this cupcake carrier as incentive to actually MAKE cupcakes! It would be nice to just have all of the cupcakes in one area on the counter instead of spread out all over everywhere. (I could use this also to take treats to kiddie parties.)

Anne said...

What a great "tool"! My current cupcake carrier only holds 18 cupcakes which means we have to eat 6 cupcakes quickly before they go bad! I would definitely ditch my Tupperware for the courier!

If I had a Cupcake Courier, the first use would be taking cupcakes to my husband's work as a going away treat before he is mobilized with the military. After that, it would be used to take cupcakes to my son's school, (and twins' school in 4 years ;), to church, and family gatherings.

Brooke said...

It's more like where WOULDN'T I take the cupcake carrier. I'd bake cupcakes for my oldest's school, my middle's school, and my husband's work. I'd bake cupcakes on holidays for the police station around the corner, and for birthday parties.

Brooke said...

It looks like there will be two Brooke's leaving comments. I'll have to distinguish myself a bit: Brooke B. :)

I love the reviews, it really makes me wonder why I don't already have one! My family always brings cupcakes on picnics, and the Cupcake Courier would be perfect. Also, what child doesn't take cupcakes to school for their birthdays?

Bippert Family said...

Wow! Not only will it hold 4 dozen cupcakes, but it can also convert into a cake container too?! Sounds heavenly! I absolutely LOVE baking goodies for church activities, family functions, or "for you, just because". Except I have always found it difficult to transport my confectionary works of art without them turning into something less than appetizing. (A bit embarrassing sometimes!) Well, now that I live at the end of a quaint, yet very bumpy, country road...I'm even more hesistant to venture out with my layered cakes or generously frosted cupcakes. This has led to a very sad predicament since this has not stopped me from baking...and with nowhere take them...let's just say my husband and I are developing our own "cupcake couriers" inside our bellies!

Theresa, i live right by Magnolia and can bring you some whenever you feel the urge! For me this is a regular occurence.

We travel from Ohio to PA frequently to visit family. There are lots of times I'd love to take (and have attempted) cupcakes in for a get together. I'd also use it to take cupcakes or muffins in to work. Sometimes it's the perfect addition to a snooze-fest meeting.

AlexisTexas said...

I would take them everywhere! I have actually been looking for one of these for the past month-as well as a cute cupcake stand for display. I keep sending my husband to work with cupcakes, and the decorations have been ruined by lids on cake pans...sad.

I would take my Cupcake Courier on and all-inclusive vacation to Sandals, Jamaica. We would go snorkeling, dancing, dining, tanning, exploring.

Only kidding! (Anybody else fans of The Office?)

I would use it for church and dinner groups.

I think the question is where wouldn't I take this! I can take this just about anywhere: school functions, family picnics, playgroup, school, a treat for my husband's co-workers...anyone want a fresh blueberry muffin on a Friday morning? I love this idea!

Lizzie said...

I'd like to carry dozens of cute cupcakes or muffins ANYWHERE with that cute carrier. Maybe to a baby shower on a Saturday morning, or birthday celebration on a roof top deck. Or maybe even take some Magnolia goodness home to my family in Utah!

Hey! I am a friend of Julie Call (ya know your lil' sis). I would take a cupcake courier to Lake Powell because it is windy and wet there and I would love to have my cupcakes finally protected in that dangerous environment.

I would take it to family dinner.

What a great idea! Too bad I didn't think of it...perfect for city moms especially, who can't set their cupcakes in the car on their way to the event. There's nothing worse than being so excited for the beautiful cupcakes you made and then finding them smooshed! Perfect solution:)

I LOVE CUPCAKES!! I would REALLY love to win this cupcake courier because I would take it with me to any sort of social gathering - I love its versatility, not only in the variety of cakes that can fit inside of it, but how easy (and smudge-free!) it would be to take this courier anywhere! Pick me!!

So this is to best cupcake carrier that I have ever seen! This is awesome! The first thing that I would use this for is I would use it for my daughter’s end of the year preschool party! What fun! I just love this, I love that in the picture you can see that the cupcakes are not touching each other when they are in the container! Brilliant! I Hope That I WIN!

well, first of all I am pretty selfish, I like to make cupcakes whenever I feel like it, for my roommates and I. However, when I would make cupcakes there never seemed like a place to put all 24 of them.
They just sit there on the counter, looking delicious, thus subconsciously I justify the thought "well, they are going to be sitting out, so they are not going to be as soft tomorrow." My solution; to eat them before they go hard from not having a place to store them. Obviously you can guess that I would eat a large majority (maybe all). Not only that, but cupcakes sitting out on the counter are a huge temptation for my roommates. Our rule is; what is left in the open is open for all. Which is not always ideal for the producer of this tempting dessert.
With the cupcake courier I wouldn't have to feel forced to eat all the cupcakes that day. I also think that my roommates would not be as tempted because the cupcakes are not just sitting out in a conveniently open area.
Long story short.....I NEED ONE!

I would take it to my dear friend Reagan's baby's 1st birthday party next Saturday. Piper (the baby) has lived in a hospital her whole life and I think she'd dig the Cupcake Courier as well as its contents :)

I would use it to take cupcakes to my husband's office for his birthday at the end of the month-it would remind him of his elem. school days when Mommy would bring a cake for his friends :)

That all depends on how the cupcakes turn out! Hopefully they'd make it to the dinner party, church activity, or family gathering...they may not all make it that far, though. Can a padlock be put on this courier? ;)

I'm co-hosting a baby shower on May 31. It is not at my house. The refreshments? You guessed it, gourment cupcakes. How else am I to transport my lovingly prepared lemon-raspberry swirl, or ginger-key lime cupcakes?

Burt Bunch said...

That is such a great invention! The tops of cupcakes always seem to get smooshed somehow in the middle of transportation! Now...problem solved! I would love to take it to my niece's 4th birthday party, she wants purple butterfly anything at her party and that would be fun to do that on cupcakes!

Holly said...

I love that this holds so many cupcakes, and can be used for a cake as well. I'm sure I could find many places to take cupcakes or a cake!
