The Twirly Skirt

I DO NOT SEW!  Let me repeat, I simply don't sew.  My last sewing project was a ruffle apron in a high school sewing class well over 10 years ago.  My mom did most of it.  That said, if you don't sew either, please stay tuned because if I can make this incredibly adorable skirt than so can you.

I have three little girls who love to spin, twirl, dance, plie...you get the picture.  So when a friend showed me her daughter's skirt I thought "good for you, you can sew.  Too bad for me, my girls will never know the joy."   That's when I was introduced to Erin Harris's blog over at House on Hill Road.  It doesn't take long to realize she is an amazing seamstress and sewing is her passion.

Erin's twirly skirt tutorial is a gem.  It gives step by step instructions and detailed pictures to guide you along the way.  There is one change I made.  I used ribbon for the tie instead of sewing a matching one out of my fabric.  Fortunately for me, this pattern is very forgiving of many sewing mistakes (like that hem that just wouldn't stay put).

My fabric is from Hobby Lobby, but any fabric store would suffice.  I spent about $5 per skirt.  What a deal!  I used the cotton calico, but I also saw some light weight corduroy that would be nice for fall.  Its fun to mix patterns and colors.  There are so many great fabric choices.  Be bold.

So if you have a little girl or know a little girl, get sewing and watch her eyes light up when her skirt twirls.  Happy Sewing!

I love these!! I have had about as much background sewing skills as you- so maybe I will get brave and try my hand at these. Love them.

With three little twirly girlies, I can't wait to get started on this project! So cute.

OK, if you say I can do it, I'll trust you. But I'll be back to report on my success (or failure, but let's think positively). My daughter LOVES twirly skirts and for $5/skirt, it would be irresponsible not try! ; )

I love Erin's blog! But I'm not sure I'd seen this tutorial - she's got a good one for making zippered pillow covers too. Thanks for sharing!
