Salt Scrub Recipe

Looking for a low-cost/all-natural way to get rid of winter skin? Try out a body scrub. There are some pretty amazing ones on the market. Fresh makes a fabulous Brown Sugar body polish, and Sabon makes a fantastic scrub as well. But, who wants to spent $30-$65 on a body scrub that you could make for a fraction of that price?

Here is a low-budget version:
  • 1 Cup fine crystal Sea Salt (or you could use Epson Salts)
  • 1/2 Cup Oil (I like avocado oil- but you could use any oil)
  • 2 Tablespoons Honey
  • 5-10 drops of Essential Oils
You can find essential oils at most natural food markets. I am a big fan of grapefruit, lemon, orange and peppermint. The honey is optional, but I feel like it helps to hold the scrub together better.

Store the scrub in an airtight container. It will last longer if you refrigerate it.
I like jars from IKEA, which run around $2. You can use any airtight container. If you want to get extra fancy, you can use these templates from Martha Stewart to create some labels for your scrub. These would be great if you wanted to give it away as a gift.

I love salt scrubs because they exfoliate and moisturize at the same time. I don't have to apply lotion on the days that I use a body scrub in the shower.

Any of you have a home-made beauty recipe/tip to share? Comment away!

Is that jar you have pictured the $2 one from IKEA you were talking about?
I'm making an IKEA stop next weekend!! Anything else I should get while I'm there?

Yes, that is it. They also come in a larger size. They jars are great for some things- their only fault being that the lids lift off rather than screw on. I like this for the shower because I can put it on the top shelf in our shower, and not have to worry about unscrewing the lid with wet hands. Half of my house is from IKEA :) I recommend anything but their dressers, which have a lifespan of only 8 months (at least in our house). Supposedly they have great (and cheap!) houseplants. I have yet to buy any of those. Owen is too into soil creations.
